Fit Feet Screening Helps Athlete Get Crucial Care
By Delanie Ross / Special Olympics Florida
Central Region athlete Shawn Squires recently received critical medical care thanks to a recommendation from Healthy Athletes.
While attending a Regional Bowling event, Shawn visited Healthy Athletes for a routine health screening. During a Fit Feet screening, a volunteer health professional noticed a problem with his leg. They urged him to see a doctor when he got home.
Shawn followed the recommendation and went to the emergency room. There, he was diagnosed with a medical issue that could have easily become more serious. Doctors, however, successfully treated the problem and Shawn is now out of the hospital and recovering.
Had it not been for the screening and recommendation he received through Healthy Athletes, Shawn's condition may have gone undiagnosed, potentially leading to more serious health complications. Thank you to all the health professionals who volunteer with Healthy Athletes. Your dedication, expertise, and care make a meaningful difference in the lives of our athletes.
